An upstate landmark since 1883, The Stewart House occupies a beautiful Victorian mansion nestled on the banks of the Hudson River. A mix of classic and contemporary accents, rooms feature original floors and exposed brick chimneys as well as 800-thread-count sheets, rain showerheads and heated towel racks.
On the western bank of the Hudson River, the Stewart House at the Athens Hotel is home to one of the best-kept secrets in the Hudson Valley: Happy Jake’s garden restaurant. Shaded by beautiful willow trees, guests can enjoy tasty food, live entertainment, and exceptional river views on the patio or in the garden.
The town of Hudson hogs the limelight directly across the river. (Somehow people still don’t know that hopping the ferry to Athens is one of the coolest things you can do in Hudson.) The one thing you should do: Attend a weekend concert at Happy Jakes at The Stewart House.
This is a place you come to be instantly transported to a destination that feels far far away.
The nine rooms are beautifully decorated in a soothing white-based palette that serves to accent the wood, leather, and fabric furnishings and, most stunningly, the views.
Presenting a Hudson-Athens Ferry ticket will either earn you a discount at the bistro or your second drink free at the bar — this offer, and the great live music, were enough to entice us to stick around until the final return ferry of the night at 10:30 pm.
Great location on the Hudson, wake up early and watch the sunrise. Stay up late and star gaze.
The result of [the] renovation is absolutely dreamy–—rooms are bright and clean, filled with beautiful antiques and modern amenities (like heated towel racks!) Outside the second floor rooms, a nook serves as a common area with snacks, water, a couple couches, and a bookshelf. Many of the rooms come with sweeping views of the Hudson River.
If you’re looking for a luxurious stay along the Hudson, we recommend the Stewart House
And I can’t forget to mention Happy Jake’s, the restaurant/bar downstairs. Boasting a classic new-American menu, they have some of the friendliest staff offering to find you the perfect drink and food recommendations. The Blue Point mussels in a garlic-white wine sauce with rosemary had me craving these weeks later. I would have to say it was some of the best I’ve ever had- perfect blend of flavors go perfectly with a fall Doc’s cider.
